Ages We Care For

At Glenmont Montessori Bilingual, the Preschool and Kindergarten are full day programs (8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.). Our teacher-student ratio is 1 to 8. Our Montessori classroom is a specially prepared environment for children 3 to 6 years old, which Montessori method calls "Primary”.

The school’s curriculum implements a Montessori instructional program for each class and age group taught. The curriculum promotes the student’s cognitive physical, social-emotional, spiritual, and psychological development; thereby, addressing the needs of the whole child.

The Primary environment has Montessori trained Teachers, whose credentials are certified by the American Montessori Society (AMS) and by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). In addition, our teachers have a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in education. Also, they speak Spanish fluently.

The school’s educational programs meet and complies with Federal, State and Local regulatory and statutory requirements. Therefore, the school is legally authorized to operate, and is registered in the State of MD (Licenses 256027 and 37043).

"The first essential for the child’s development is concentration. The child who concentrates is immensely happy” Dr. María Montessori

The Work

Instruction occurs one-on-one and in small groups conducted at the child's pace. Montessori materials are organized in a logical, sequential nature, providing a structure that guides a child's discovery. A series of presentations, activities, and developmentally appropriate materials are designed to enable the child to master specific skills.  Each series of presentations and material is grouped by broader content areas that complement and interrelate with one another.

Children are free to choose work from the beautiful and well-defined areas of the environment.  The adults in the environment serve as guides who show the children how to use the concrete materials. Working with the materials not only helps develop coordination, concentration, independence, and a sense of order; it also helps the child become more disciplined and accomplished. Children in a Montessori environment usually have healthy self-esteem because they are helped to do things themselves.

The Environment

The children have ownership of the environment and take good care of it, returning materials with care. The environment has logical organization of materials/resources/activities, such as by level of difficulty and sequence of skill development. Equipment and materials are displayed and easily accessible to students. The furniture and furnishings in our Montessori environment is child-sized. Our Montessori and curriculum support materials are neat and complete.

Snack is available daily in the morning and afternoon. Children staying for the School Day Program bring a lunch from home.
